We are pleased to announce a new software upgrade for the Model 990 that responds to comments that we have received in the past few weeks. While the features of the major upgrade operate as intended, a minor bug created an issue ONLY when a combination of the “subwoofer channel level” and the “2-channel subwoofer offset” was combined to a subwoofer trim reduction of -16dB or more. That item has been corrected so that you may now reduce the sub output to the maximum –15db level AND add an additional -8dB of offset in the stereo mode. If you are among the very few Outlaws that have a system where this is a problem, download the revised software from http://www.outlawaudio.com/support/990.html.

It is very important to note that this update addresses only the specific issue mentioned above and is otherwise identical to the current release. Unless your system requires the subwoofer output to be set at -15 dB you do NOT need to install the new software.

One additional note concerning software upgrades for the Model 990. We understand that some of you have encountered error messages when loading the software into your Model 990, and we apologize for any inconvenience that may have caused. Both the software and the loader were thoroughly tested before release, and the vast majority of those who have downloaded it were able to complete the installation quickly and with no problems.

To those who have been reluctant to take advantage of the added features and improved performance of the upgrade, we offer the following hints:

§ Please read the instructions carefully and follow them in order when loading the upgrade. Avoiding the natural tendency to rush to install the upgrade will save you time and trouble in the long run.
§ In particular, it is very important that the Main Power switch on the back panel be turned off, or even better that the AC power cord be unplugged when changing the position of the OPR/SVC switch prior to the software installation. Missing this step may cause an install error.
§ AFTER the software has been loaded into your Model 990, follow the instructions for a power-off and system reset very carefully, otherwise the upgrade may not initialize properly.

As the only manufacturer with in-home software upgradeability for all multichannel processors and receivers in its product line, Outlaw hopes that you will enjoy the benefits of the new software.
