As a new 990 owner, one is prone to do strange things whilst trying to understand and configure the unit.

I was playing a CD in my DVD player via an optical input, and variously had the 990 in stereo, bypass and upsample modes.

I subsequently switched to a DTS DVD, and ended up with sound in the centre, surround and subwoofer only. The main LR speakers were absolutely silent!

The only way I could recover was to switch the 990 off and on again.

Is this a known defect?

I have experienced this as well. All you have to do is cycle through the DD or DTS modes or switch to another source and then back and it should bring the front channels right back. I think it is a minor glitch, hopefully one that will be taken care of in the comming update.

Thanks for the tip. At first I thought both my front speakers had failed simultaneously!

Your seeing/hearing what I mentioned in this thread...

I don't know if they have been able to reproduce, so until then, I would not hold out for a fix...

Reproduction is 7/10's of the battle. We are examining this for sure.

Best,

Scott

Scott,

If it helps any, I seem to get this error almost every time I play a CD in my DVD player (Pioneer DV-C503) hooked into the DVD input of the 990 (audio via optical digital connection). I will switch to upsample mode when listening to the CD through the DVD player. If I change to a DVD in the player (it's a 5-disc unit) I will almost always lose the front L/R channels.

I do not get this issue if I listen to music through the CD player (Denon DCM-380) hooked to the CD input of the 990 (audio via coaxial digital connection), but it is constantly set to the upsample mode so I believe that is why.

Now that I think about my post above, just cycling through the DD/DTS modes may not pull it back. Changing the input source and then going back to the DVD input always does though.

If I can help you any further with this, let me know.
