Ok, For the longest time I have always run video straight to the TV and not through the processor. My thought on that had always been no reason to add something in the middle if I can run it straight to the TV. My current TV has 7 inputs so, I do not really need the switching offered by the 990. So my question is should I run stuff through the 990 or keep it running straight to the TV as it is now?

thoughts on this?

I personally would leave it. I don't use video either. It boils down to having all those cables hooked to the 990 plus one more to go out to the TV, or leave it like it is.

I agree that while it may not hurt having a "middleman", why do it?

Many find this convenient as it eliminates the extra step of switching inputs on the monitor.

What is your preference ? Do you want to re-wire ?
The only reason to run video through the 990 would be ease of use . The switching as things stand now would be cut in half . If you choose to utilize the 990 input output you could eliminate the need for switching the video input on the tv everytime you wanted to change sources . Plus it will cross convert everything to component output . Less wires to run .

Right now as it stands here is what I have connected to the TV:

1. Denon 2910 -> DVI
2. XboX -> Component
3. Sony dvd Changer -> Component
4. Mythtv DVR -> S-video
5. Cable -> coax cable

I am pretty sure that I do not want to take my 2910 video through the 990, but other than not wanting to have a "middleman" I have no reason why...

My only gain could I guess come from the mythtv DVR being upconverted to component...

However, don't you need a video cable from the 990 to the TV for the purposes of 990 configuration? It's my understanding that you can't do this from the front panel, as you could with the 950.

True that boblinds . Another good point .

Nemos2, the upconversion too component isn't really going to do much if anything at all for your picture quality . It will only be as good as the source being received .

Whoops I forgot about that, I also have the 990 hooked up as well...

And if I do not gain anything with the upconversion, then I might as well leave it as is.... unless anyone can come up with a reason..

The only purpose for video switching is if you don't have enough inputs on your tv - you have 7 - thus I wouldn't go through the 990.

Later this weekend I'll try both ways & see if anyone can see a difference. In my case, I have a DVD that doesn't offer HDMI or DVI, so I'll use the component out (Pioneer Elite DV-37). I'll try connecting that to my brand new Panasonic AE700 projector directly. Then I'll run the component through the 990 & see if I can detect any results. The Panny has enough inputs so it is not necessary to run everything through the 990, however I like the idea of few cables, as long as signal degragation isn't present. Also it will make switching easier on the clan.

So far I will have the following running to the Panny: component (either from the DVD or through the 990), VGA (PC), DVI-HDMI, either directly from a LG-4200A HD set top tuner or through the 990.
