Bishop3,

I think you will find that the Rotel has a smoother feel to it than the 950, mainly on the analog side, SACD, & DVD/audio. It also has an upgraded component in with a bandwith of 200mhz so it would be capable of passing through 1080i and 1080p without degradation.
The Rotel lacks a tuner, but the tuner on the 950 is so-so anyway. I feel the build quality is much higher on the Rotel. It just feels "solid". But the drawback is the 1066 goes for $1499 almost twice as much. The only way I would recommend the Rotel is if you can find a used or demo unit or if money is not an issue. It all comes down to budget and what your listening needs are. If you are in the $800 range go for the Outlaw!

Bishop3,

Follow this link to the 950 archive:

This thread had a pretty good comparison if I remember correctly. The 950's hiss issue has long been put to bed so you can discount any mention of that in the thread. It all depends on your goals.

The 1066 also has the "double bass" issue that cannot be bypassed, ... unless you buy an *Outlaw* ICBM. Or, open it up, voiding the warranty, and cutting two resistors from the analog 5.1 input signal path. Check out www.htguide.com for more info.

The 950 also has the same issue (same Cirrus DSP engine), *but* the problem is eliminated on the 950 if you engage the 80 Hz analog crossover. The Rotel has no bass management on the 5.1 analog inputs.
