First, I have a "hiss less" 950 which I'm very pleased with and I've used this product for over three months with a Toshiba 4700 DVD player without any problems.

This weekend, I bought the Denon 3800 DVD player and experienced some "audio dropouts" (no sound for about a heartbeat on a variety of sources).

Denon says it's the processor. I'm not so sure (sorta like Ford saying it's Firestone's fault).

Trying out a Myryad DVD player tonight to try to replicate the drop out problem.

Anybody else have or know anything about this problem.

Your comments would be muchly appreciated.

Incidentally, today was my first time to call Outlaw...and lo and behold, a human being (Scott himself) answered the phone. I was truly impressed (and told him so) after having to going through all those irritating computer voice screens at other companies.

Are these dropouts about 1/2 second to 1 second long, and typically occuring as menus load on DVD's or at the beginning of some tracks on CD's? If so, you are encountering the delay necessary for the processor to detect the format of the incoming digital signal. The 950 has been tweaked some in this regard, but still takes between 1/2 a second and a second to lock on to DVD menus and the beginning of DVD's. This problem occurs with any of the current generation of processors, so in that regard Denon was right.

But if it happens during playing of a chapter, then it is definitely not normal. Although you may experience a brief drop-out at the layer change, but that should be only one specific place on the disk.

The audio drop outs do not occur at the beginning of a disc and are not layer changes.

Played the Myryad last night for over three hours and no dropouts (although the video did not display). It's just not my week for DVD players. I should have kept the Toshiba instead of "improving it worse".

I have got the 950 and a Toshiba 5700. No problems except an ever so slight pause at a layer change. I am using the digital inputs.

Problem fixed, at least kindasorta. The Denon 2800 (not the MK II) I tried last night had the same audio drop out problem.

Trying a Marantz 7010 now. No drop outs on any source. Probably a "keeper".

Not sure why the Denon pieces reacted this way (some kind of "jitter" problem using their digital coax out??).

In any event, the Denon-made DVD players (2800 and up) connected to the 950 via a digital coax at least (never tried the optical connection, although "DeonJeff" as he's called with Denon made that suggestion)don't really want to talk to each other consistently.

Hope I save my fellow forum members some heartache if they go through this same audio-hell.

Go figure.

Glad to hear that you found a solution of some sort! Interesting that both Denons showed problems using the coax. Hopefully the Marantz will work out well for you.
