What are your recommendation for a new sub? Right now I have two old BSR 15" subs that rattle. I am looking to upgrade and would like something that will go good in a standard living room with 5.1. I have a 400w amp to power it/them or I could use self powered amps.

With that much wattage available for free any of the passive subs from
SVSubs would work great. I have the 20-39+ model and love it the passive subs start out at $329 so they are affordable too. You would be hard pressed to find a better sub in that price range.

I hope you are right. After seeing hundreds of positive reviews and no negative ones at all, I just ordered an SVS SV16-46PCi. I can't wait for the UPS guy!

You won't be upset. You'll have to spend 3-4x the cost just to find something else competitive with SVS a single sub. Two SVS subs are very hard to compete with.

I believe you've made a very wise choice. I'd be interested to know how you make out. I'm waiting to order my dual 20-39CS+ to arrive at or about the same time as my 950/770, so I'd love to hear from another satisfied SVS customer !! (I live vicariously through you guys).
Hey...does anyone else feel, that while you're waiting for your newest "toy" to be delivered, that it's UPS that really runs the world ???

Watching the ups tracking site could be considered cruel and unusual punishment. It downright hurts to see your package going in every other direction except towards your house. I truly believe that you guys will not be disappointed one bit, their product is top notch and their customer service is stellar. Also for meangene if you are undecided on which one I highly recommend shooting off an e-mail to them at techsupport@svsubwoofers.com they will help you out quicker than........well quick.

Execpt for the cosmetics, what about getting a used bass guitar subwolfer like a 18" blackWidow, won't that work just as well?

You may have the benefit of hearing from some real musicians on this forum...they're out there...
I don't believe that even a bass guitar goes as low as LFE in movie soundtracks. Movies can go sub 20Hz, and even some of the newer 5 and 6 string basses don't go that low. Musically, pipe organs go that low...not too much else.
You certainly could try a BlackWidow, but I wonder if you'd be getting all there is from movies.

Drivers designed for musical instrument duty will not work well in a subwoofer application.

So the original device that is used to produce the sound cannot emulate that sound it a home environment? It seems that the audiophile spends a lot on wood.
