Hi all - new to this forum... I am seriously thinking of purchasing a 950/AMP combo...
and just want to get an idea of the difference between the 7100 and the 770. I know thw 770 has 2x the power, but I am more interested in the sonic and build quality of these two amps....

Thanks, Don

Current setup:

Yamaha RX-V630 (75 w/ch) (so they claim)
Mains: Polk RTi70
Center: Polk CSi40
Surrounds: Polk FXi30
Sub: Polk PSW650
DVD: Panasonic RV32
Display: Samsung HLN5065 50" DLP

Build quality will be extremely comparable for the two amps -- the cost difference is purely a matter of material and manufacturing required to generate the additional power for the 770. The concensus from those who have heard both amps is that sonically they are not much different unless the combination of speakers and material begins to demand a lot of power. See ndrayer's post in this thread for a first-hand account. There's also this recent thread (twin to the previous thread, but in this forum rather than the 770 forum) which has some good information. Likewise, this thread might be useful to you. Both the 7100 and 770 are excellent amps.

Gonk - thanks for the reply... I read through the threads you linked (some again)and it seems that the 7100 is a solid amp. The size and weight are a little easier for me to handle...

Just a few last questions.... does anyone know what the Dynamic Headroom is on the 7100 - I can't seem to find the info in the specs..

and... being Canadian, I would like to hear from anyone who has bought from Outlaw.. and what problems and costs our friends at Canada Customs and Revenue caused them.... and any ways to reduce the problems and cost...

Thanks again,

Don

Check out the "Shipping - Canada" thread in the "950 Feedback" section of the Outlaw Saloon for some Gunslinger contacts.

Ladies and Gents:

I just purchased a pair of Martin Logan Arieus and want to know if in your opinion the 7100 is sufficient, particularly if I bi-wire the mains. Room is 18 by 30 by 11 high with lots of openings.

I think it should still be plenty, any experience is appreciated.

dbrustkern, yes, the 7100s will drive your MLs. But I'd err on the side of more power with those and go with a 755 or 770.
