I just switched over to Time Warner Digital Cable and hooked the DTV box up to the 1050 via a Coax cable for audio.
From thoes of you out there with DTV what can I expect here? It seems most channels are in ProLogic with very little comming out of my rear speakers. Only a few movie channels seem to be in DD and HBO is not one of them. Also how can I tell if a movie is in 2.0 or 5.1 suround?

Thanks for any help

If something is broadcast in 5.1, the 1050 will automatically detect it and switch to that mode. You should notice the change on the front panel of the 1050.

I don't have Digital Cable, but I do have Dishnetwork. I have one HBO that is broadcast in 5.1 all the time. The rest are all Pro Logic. Other than the pay-per-view channels, that's the only one that does broadcast in 5.1 that I know of.

I agree...DTV does not send out a
great deal with 5.1 and nothing with
DTS. DTS would (I believe) take more
bandwidth than they could devote to
a single channel. DTV is great, I love it, but surely not in a league with DVD's in
a decent player. The problem (if we want to call it that) is absolutely not with the 1050.

I just got a digital tv set top box a couple of weeks ago and man does it sound amazing (I won't even get started on how much better HD looks compared to DVD). ABC runs a bunch of movies like the Bond films and those are all in 5.1 which the 1050 nicely puts into 6.1. Toy Story was on last week on ABC and it sounded unreal. Also, DirecTV just bumped up the number of 5.1 stations to about 20, so I'm in 6.1 mode on a very frequent basis. I'm not sure about your particular cable system, but I think that the number of stations broadcasting in 5.1 is steadily increasing.

The above link is about the newest sattelite and presumably more bandwidth for the DTV world.

I was thrown off a bit by the fact that not every movie on HBO and the other movies channels are in 5.1. I guess I just have to trust the 1050 to tell me what is being sent. I watched my first HBO movie in 5.1 and I am in Heaven. I never wanted pay for HBO before because I wouldn't get the same experience as a DVD.
One problem I am having is that the volume levels between channels vary a great deal. Any else experence this?

I noticed that volume levels differ significantly between channels. I seem to remember reading that dolby pro-logic had some sort of "smart sound" logic. This does not seem to be working as advertised.

I just remember that you could go to showtime/no limits and get all the movies that are going to be in 5.1 under schedules, hope this helps.

My volume does differ between sources. In 5.1 (Dish and DVD's) my volume level is between 40 and 45. For non-5.1 content my volume level is between 25-30.

Those are listening levels when the wife is around
