I have a pair of Spendor S3/5 speakers connected to my old Sony STR-DE945 receiver for listening to 2-channel stereo music. The Sony receiver is 6 year-old, and it was purchased for ~$400 USD. Is it worth to upgrade to RR 2150? and will the upgrade sound better? Thanks!

The 2150's amp section is probably a nice upgrade from the Sony. The analog section is probably a better design, too. Remember that the 2150 is a purely analog receiver, with no digital audio inputs - what sourcse are you using currently?

I've used a Sony STR-DE545 ...... and to me the RR2150 sounds much better. The Sony had constant audable hiss in the background that sounded like a seaside roar ..... and I'd describe the sound as dull and anemic. A real lack of resolution and sparkle . The RR2150 is quiet, full of life and sparkle. Now, if I turned the bass and treble to minus 5 on my RR2150, it would kinda sound like the Sony .... minus the seaside roar smile

Now, wether or not you'll notice a difference depends on you. Since no two of us hear the same, one's passion is another's poison.

Purchasing the RR2150 was worth the 30 day trial and the cost of shipping for me. I prefer to listen in home anyways, where I listen in my acoustics and my speakers. If you want to know how the RR150 works, download the owners manual http://pdf.outlawaudio.com/outlaw/docs/2150manual.pdf
, this way there' no suprises.

The only way to know , is to try one. Your only risk is shipping charges. The reward could be a very satisfying listening experience.

You know, the spendors are great speakers, the 2150 is an upgrade....the spendors should be more lively, bet you notice fuller bass from the speakers, even though they are bookshelf. You will hear better music.....the 2150 does not impart it's sonic signature on loudspeakers like the Sony would....the 2150 is far more neutral. The 2150, will change the Spendors for the better! I think a fair comparison for the 2150 would be Sony's ES series.

We have the Spendors, and it's really a nice combo.
The 2150 mates well and the Spendors bloom nicely, especially with well recorded classical program material... Shocking-I was impressed with XM Radio HD Classical...we all know how flat satellite radio can be given the dreadful sample rate...
