Is the PLII-C format on the 950 considered a default if it can't pick up any of the dolby or dts formats. Basically, if you are to watch an intro on a dvd, on some of them, the format is PLII-C, until the movie starts and then it will detect dolby digital, and swith to dolby d.

I have also noticed this on my xbox. On the intro screen with no game in, it reads PLII-C and whenever you pop a game in the tray and start it up it will turn to dolby d.

Bottom line, is the PLII-C considered a default format if it can't determine whether it is dolby, dts, etc.

Gonk, once again, you are the man

Actually, the 950 will remember what mode you last used on that input for different conditions - 2.0, DD 5.1, and DTS - and revert to what you used last. The factory setting for most inputs when receiving a 2.0 signal (either analog, PCM digital, or Dolby 2.0) is ProLogic II C. If you change that setting (such as changing to stereo while listening to a CD), the new setting will be the default for that input and for that signal type.

so you are saying, if i watch a movie in dts and then turn off the 950, the next time i pop in another movie it will still read dts, unless i change the format? So basically, whatever format i choose for a movie (dd,dts, etc,) that format will stay in the 950 until i choose a diff format for, lets say a diff. movie? Also, does the 950 ever revert to a default format if nothing is specified?

The 950 treats each different signal type differently: Dolby 5.1, DTS, and stereo (either PCM or Dolby 2.0). If the next movie is DTS (hence the signal type), it will use the same setting for DTS that you used last time -- DTS, DTS-ES, DTS-CRC, or DTS-CRM.

I'm a new 950 owner and I have a question regarding the above. When I configure a given input to default to PLII-M and then switch to a DD broadcast, the 950 plays in DD which is great. But, when going back to the original channel, the 950 doesn't play in PLII-M, but in PLII-C as per the factory default, or even stays in DD any plays in 2 channel.. I hope I explained this well. How can I configure it to default to PLII-M all the time, for a given input, except for when it senses a DD broadcast?
