OK so my DVD player is hooked up to my 950 with both Optical for the digital side of life and 5 cables for the analog out music from my JVC DVD player. Now the problem...
If I go to the JVC DVD player, put in a DVD audio CD and go into the menu to select "enhanced stereo (which I am assuming is probably a superior sounding 24 bit recording) I get no output....On the 950 I select both the optical input, and I even try the bypass button to be sure I'm not overlooking something. BUT I don't get any sound.
What am I overlooking?!

Is the DVD player set to pass PCM? Isn’t the enhanced 2-channel on most DVD-A passed PCM?

(or)For DVD-A the 2-channel track I believe is a fold down track created from the MC track, did you try hitting the 6-channel direct button on the 950. Maybe the ‘enhanced 2-channel’ on the disc although outputting only FL/FR needs to be processed by the 950 via the 6 channel button for the fold down. Just a (?)thought.

DVD-A in Hi Res of either 2 channel or 6 channel will omly be output through the analog on the DVD player. The optical is used for the DD or DTS tracks.

RayBan,

You need to hit the 6 ch bypass button on the 950's remote. You cannot get to that input from the 950 itself. Many DVD-As have a DD and/or DTS track. You may need to make sure your JVC is setup as a "DVD-Video Only" player if it has such an option if you want to use the digital output. In this case, the "stereo bypass" doesn't work because it only works on analog sources.

Please keep in mind that all DVD-As are not created the same. Some allow a fair amount of flexibity and some do not.
