Hi,

Does anyone out there miss the fact that the 950 doesn't have DLPIIx?

I am seriously looking into purchasing the 950/770 combo and i was wondering what people have to say about that one feature.

Thanks,
doc

Obviously, IIx only becomes a factor if you are running seven channels (which I've now been doing for a few months). I personally don't feel that I'm losing out by using Cirrus Extra Surround in lieu of Pro Logic IIx -- CES does a pretty respectable job with the surround soundstage. Even with seven channels, I think the effectiveness of Cirrus Extra Surround along with the 950's price tag makes it difficult to recommend choosing one of the newer Pro Logic IIx pre/pros (at roughly double the price) over a 950 purely based on that feature.

Outlaw uses Cirrus Surround to get 6.1 distinct channels but DPL IIx gets 7.1 distinct channels. With Cirrus the 2 rears are in mono. With DPL IIx they are in stereo. Also as I understand it, Cirrus doesn't adjust the side surrounds when the rear surround is on. However in DPL IIx, the side surrounds are adjusted to compensate for what is sent out on the rear surrounds.

Here's a thread with more information on PLIIx .
