However, they are using computer sources and are connected with HDMI. Me, I have a good old CD player connected with SPDIF, either optical or coaxial.
Just butting in long enough to point out that if you have a display connected by HDMI, it doesn't matter what the input is, you still have HDMI handshakes.

I use a projector and it's usually powered off while listening to music, but it's good to know anyway!

Does anyone know if there's been a fix for this? I heard there was a new firmware, but don't know what issues it addresses.

DRM not only affects HDMI but also S/PDIF and Optical as they are also digital sources. I believe the issue comes from the extreme silence in between tracks of most CDs causing the signal to be lost as if the disc was over and then reacquired resulting in a short loss of sound at the beginning of a track. Another way to resolve this is to connect the CD player via analog which will of course bring the players decoder into the mix.

There are no DRM in spdif signals. It's an unidirectional protocol, how could any handshake take place.
External DACs sold for the last 30 years have no "acquiring delay", not inbetween songs, not at the begining of a disc, not even after a digital dropout. Any way you slice it, it's a mess.

AV Nirvana is reviewing the 976. I've brought this situation up to them in this thread. Maybe it will bring some attention to the problem.

I think this parallels CD track fade-in: I consistently get BR player video upon Handshake but some times I hafta mess w/ the Test and Enter buttons to get audio. Did not experience this w/the third title, “Home Alone” on DVD. We’ll see
