Are you set up to run REW and adjust the PEQ? I am interested in your thoughts and know I am not the only one. If you are able to run the eq? If so it would be appreciated if you would would list the hardware you used and what you thought of the interface. Thank you

Congrats on your new processor. Judging by my 975 experience your 976 should do everything Outlaw has advertised and do it well.

I am interested in this as well. I have been practicing with running measurements with REW using my Marantz and my 976 is scheduled for delivery this Tuesday. Thanks.

I've never run REW but I may look into it since I have an SPL meter. My initial setup was just using the Auto feature and the supplied mic.

Depending on your spl meter it may not hear much past 3k or so. Most all room issues will be well below 3k so while a SPL meter might not be your first choice for a mic it will work.

Is there a reason why the mic included with the 976 cannot be used?

The mic supplied is probably specifically tuned for the signal generated by the auto setup program. Depending on the specific frequency of that signal the mic might not cover the range that the EQ system can. Keep in mind the auto setup program is pretty basic and usually only determines speaker size and distance not full frequency capability.

I ordered one yesterday, probably too late for the initial batch. Cannot wait to replace my old 950.
I would think renaming the inputs is going to be the number 1 request for an update. Ive been pondering the supplied names and like everyone else im thinking: what input name am i going to use for my Oppo? Disc, Media ??? Hey, I want to name it "Oppo" !!!!
Anyone know the cable length on the supplied mic? I need 25ft as i have a media closet outside my dedicated theater, so will probably need an extension. Is it a mono 3.5mm cable ?

How loud were the test tones on the 976? The 976 manual mentioned that the test tones are quite loud so I was thinking about using a separate test disc to be on the safe side. Thanks.

The test tones are loud enough for the mic to accurately determine the speaker distance and size. The supplied mic has a 3.5 mm jack and quite a long cord for the mic. How would you use a test disc with the auto system? I would doubt if Outlaw will make a FW change to allow renaming of sources. They probably figure that once the 976 is configured there will be no need to display what the source is as the user should know.

How would you use a test disc with the auto system?

I would use it with the manual adjustments. I know I can't use it with the auto. I was just concerned about damaging my speakers if the internal test tones start out too loud.

The web page for REW says you need a calibrated mic, in the $80-$100 category. Since this would be my only use for it I don't see myself making the expenditure.

Your Radio Shack SPL meter might be on the list of available calibration profiles. At one time REW had files for several different meters.
