Last night I was listening to 2 channel music very, very loudly and started smelling a burning smell. I turned everything off and waited a while. Powered things back on and within a fairly short amount of time. The sound just peter'd out. I've tried turning off the switches in back and unplugging the unit in the rear and waiting a while and I cannot get it to power up at all.

Tried to open a ticket with tech support but got some type perl error so I'll just put it here. I know the posts are reviewed:
I bought this amp 12/13/2011 and never had an issue with it. Last night I was listening to two channel music very loudly and it started smelling like something might be burning. I turned everything off. Waited quite a while and then powered back up. Things seemed to work for a while, but eventually all sound went away. Today I can't power up the amp at all. I've tried turning it off in back and disconnecting the power cords in back for a while and still it will not power up. The power button is red, so I know it has power. I've held the power button down over 30 seconds and it won't power up. It still smells like burnt plastic in my room. If you want to call me, my number is (214) 532-8404. I thought this would be the last amp I owned. I still have a 750 that works.

Lonnie Givens

Thanks

Try opening up the cabinet and taking a looksee. Take some pictures if you find any damage and get them to Outlaw on Monday. Not sure of the power supply wiring with the light but I would think a power supply controller card may have smoked. That is one big amp to ship back to Outlaw for some TLC so maybe they can send you a part. The inside is basically modular and as long as one of the transformers isn't the issue you might save some shipping $$$.

Hi XenonMan,
Yes, I agree, a large amp to ship back. The only fear I have is if I yank it completely out, take the cover off, that they void the warranty.... Any thoughts on that? Thanks man.

You should call Outlaw but they didn't void my warranty on my 7500 after I opened it up to replace the controller card at home. They sent me the part with some info and I replaced it. There was nothing wrong with the amp. I thought the way it started up was odd but turns out it was normal. You will have to pull the amp no matter what unless it suddenly heals itself and even then the melted plastic smell would keep me awake at night as long as it was plugged in. Could it have gotten fried by lightning or some other voltage transient? If so homeowners insurance should cover it. Any chance you popped a circuit breaker or GFI on one of the circuits it is plugged into? Listening in stereo should not even come close to challenging the power supplies but you never know for sure.

I just saw your questions. I apologize for that. Trying to do other stuff also. There was no storm. Both plugs are plugged into Monster Power Centers; not cheap strips. Maybe not the best, but everything has worked fine for almost 5 years. The main speakers did not change. Waiting for Golden Ear Triton Ones which will have to be put off now. I checked circuit breakers and none were popped, but I reset them anyway and no change. I was listening in analog stereo when it seemed to start being an issue. I really felt this amp should be able to break windows if asked. I was listening loud, since I was doing work in the room, but not at a level that was hurting my ears......

If Outlaw gives me the approval I will remove the cover and send them pic's. It has shut down my theater room.....My only room of escape. I thought they reviewed posts more, but maybe not. I've been a customer for years.

Outlaw Ben will probably see it this morning. Could it be the power centers?

Both power centers look to be okay. Neither has a light indicating there's any issue. All other components seem to work.
