as you guys know already i have the 7075 amp and my room dimensions are 15x25x10ft and the room opens up into a living 11x12x8ft and large staircase in the back. the 7075 does the job but its cranked up pretty high most the time (0.0 dec). if i was to upgrade my amp to a more powerful amp like the 7125 or the 7200 would i hear a noticable difference in sound quality given my room dimensions and current volume settings?

thanks for the feedback.

my speakers are: the Aperion 533-pt power towers with built in 8in amplified sub, 12 in powered aperion sub, 533 aperion vac center, and aperion in walls for surrounds.

What level did you calibrate the system to? (By that I mean was it 75dB on the meter with the internal test tones and the volume set to 0dB?) I ask because a more powerful amp will not necessarily change the volume setting you use.

i calibrated my system with the 970 set to 0.0 decibals and my sound level meter C, slow and at 70db, and it read about 75. my front mains and center are set -2dec, my surrounds at +1, and my sub is set at +5. those are my settings. what do you think gonk?

please note: my subwoofer is set at +5, not because i need it that high. i have it set at that level so it is always sent a strong enough signal to turn on and then i adjust the volume on the sub itself to a lower setting about a 10 o'clock setting. is this good to do?

The sub approach is fine, and the settings sound reasonable.

If you use the same calibration technique with a different sub, you will still end up using the same volume setting while listening even if the amp has more power. It may sound better, of course, but unless you are really pushing the 7075 to the edge of its limits the differences will be subtle.

Any other Aperion owners around here with any thoughts on how much power it typically takes to let these speakers strut their stuff.
