EDIT: AHHH! I think I found the section in the manual were it says you can override the auto selection process and hard set the input on the desired format. (surround data format lock, or stereo in my case...) always helps to RTM wink

I have a Sony CDP-CX355 connected to my 950 via optical 1 and I am using the "CD" input for it. when a new track starts playing sometimes the beginning of the track is cut off for like 1/2 a second because the input seems to renegotiate the data connection to learn it's PCM between tracks - but only sometimes... it's weird.. I had this CD player on several other devices and this didn't happen... I am wondering if the 950's optical input is just very sensitive or something? Is there some kind of way I can force it to STEREO only without using analog mode?

I fixed the issue by hard setting the input to PCM... it took a little bit to figure out how to get to that hidden menu where you can unlock the input data type.. but it works like a charm now.

this 950 is the best sounding device I have ever heard... when I plugged it into my system (formerly I was using a yamaha rx-v1400 as a prepro) it just blew me away.. the sound difference was astonishing.. the clarity and detail is flat out amazing.

KUDOS to Outlaw for sending a refurb in NEW condition. It arrived so fast and it looked new to me. amazing unit!

Post how you did the adjustment in detail for future refernce. I have seen several people ask about the delay issue and maybe your solution can be applied to newer equipment.

Sure... lol. Now if I can only remember... wink

So I followed these directions closely, but for the CD input section.

the part that was unclear to me was the bit that says "press the same button for 5 seconds". I wasn't sure which button that was, the "same button" ??... It meant the button to scroll through the different audio modes (Dolby D, DTS, Stereo, etc), make sure you can cycle the modes with the direct buttons on the remote, meaning the buttons for the different surround modes specifically, not the arrow buttons! Hold one of them down for 5 seconds while in the menu section in the picture, then release the button and try one of the arrow keys and the hidden menu should show up. It look me a couple times of doing this to get the menu to appear but it finally did! Then I was able to "unlock" my data mode and change it from "auto" to "PCM"! Now I have no dropouts in the audio while playing CDs...

This really helps when in "shuffle all disks" mode - every new song would be chopped by 1/2 a second at the start while the negotiation was happening. I hope this helps.
