They did make some great home stereo gear back in the 70s. I still have a fully operational integrated amp and tuner from 1976.

Bar none the worst component. Have ever owned was an akai receiver I traded a marantz 2265 ( which i Later got back) to get this cool looking digital face receiver........... It blew up on 2 occasions and I had it repaired both times. This is the piece of gear that turned me into an audiophile it being so bad taught me a quality lesson I learned well. I recognized the sound quality difference but did not want to believe it. I was 17 when. Made the trade and 22 when I got the marantz back. A close second was a Vector Research CD player that every once in a while worked.

Radio Shack Peek Meter - To this day I have absolutely no idea why I bought it. Looked cool but had no use since even though it peeked to the max nothing else happened to the system.

Sony Mini Disc player. I bought into the idea that mini discs were going to replace cassettes and the only recordable media at home. A very short time later, recordable CD's became cheap and that ended the mini disc.

Best Buy used to have a section of mini disc from artists and that quickly shrank down to one shelf and then disappeared.

I bought a combo deal of the home deck and a portable player and 10 blank mini discs. Worst. Purchase. Ever.

I still have the home deck and discs in a box in my basement and a few years ago I looked online to see if there was a market to sell the used deck and didn't find much.

That was the last time I became an early adopter of new technology!

That was a blast from the past. What ever happened to them?
I looked them up and I guess they are into economic consultation and public opinion polls.

I had the Radio Shack meters too, for the cool factor of course. I had them hooked up to a two channel receiver that had A/B speaker connects so naturally I bought a meter for each pair of speakers. Come to think of it they're still in use today on a system of leftovers put together in my parents basement that I left for them to use when I moved out decades ago. While they may not serve much function, they sure do last.

Holy smoke they still work? I guess the cool factor was why I bought it.
