I've had a Model 1050 since early June 2000. It was the processor in my only system for several years until a year or two after I bought my own house. I eventually bought a Model 950 for my basement home theater and moved the Model 1050 upstairs for daily TV watching and music listening.
Now today, 26 December 2012, my venerable and still superb Model 1050 is going to be taking out of service ... to be replaced with the Christmas gift I received from my folks yesterday ... a brand new Model 975!!
So ... is anyone out there still rocking a Model 1050 for daily use?
I hope everyone is having a wonder holiday season!

I bought my 1050 about 3 years ago for $150 and wish I hadn't. It certainly taught me some lessons about what features to look for in an AVR. I bought it because it had pre-outs, 5.1 analog inputs and a good reputation. It is a good thing it had pre-outs since the left front speaker output went to work part time six months later. I first added a Parasound HCA-1000A, then later went all 5 channels with a NAD T-955.
Then I realized that there was no analog pass through on any of the stereo inputs and I didn't like the electronic timbre that the DSP imparted to my phono and analog sources. The only analog pass through is on the 5.1 channel input. So those inputs are shared between my Blu-Ray front analog outputs and my NAD 106 preamp using a Niles switch.
The FM section has that same DSP sound that the other analog inputs have, only worse. I had to add a NAD tuner to the preamp to get decent FM sound.
Finally, I use my MacBook Pro for digital playback, ripping CDs to Apple Lossless and feeding to the 1050 by way of optical inputs. Thus the 1050 does the decoding. While this is convenient, I think that the CD playback from my Panasonic Blu-Ray player though the 5.1 analog output is superior.
The best I can say about it was that it was an inexpensive "learning experience". I hope to say goodbye to it in 2013 and get maybe a Parasound C1 orC2.
Jim

Jim, In fairness, if you bought it 3yrs ago, it was already 9yrs behind the times.

As of this writing, February 4th in the year of our Lord 2000 and 13,I am still employing my venerable 1050 as my main front room theater receiver, though it has been limping along over the last 5 months with it's left front channel in a perpetual state of operational flux. My wife actually is encouraging me to proceed with my purchase of the Model 975/7125 combo since our experiences with the 1050, and with Outlaw overall have been so excellent over the last 12 years!

Moved my 1050 to family room with a set of nht super ones and M8 last summer for use with a new sharp LED TV. Other than the volume control nob issue(which isn't an issue for me because we only use the Logetech remote), still works great. I think I purchased it in '01. Jeff

We're still using our 1050 daily in our home! We bought it new all those years ago, set up the 6.1 surround and have never looked back. I'm itching to upgrade to the 975 (we added a 7125 a few years ago), though. We're occasionally bumping in to some audio codecs that the 1050 can't decode (such as two channel DTS) on some of the blu-ray extras and I'd like to be able to hear the uncompressed audio from blu-ray, too. I'm hoping we can upgrade with our taxes this year, but painting the house and redoing the deck may take care of that decision for us. Curse responsible decision making! Still... gonna keep my fingers crossed until we see how it plays out. Might get lucky!

Certainly not the last. I bought a 1050 from a friend (and fellow Outlaw Saloon member) several years ago. While I don't know if it is used daily, it is certainly used on an ongoing and regular basis. And aside from a few quirks, it works like a charm. Absolutely perfect for his needs.

I loved my 1050, but I have to admit, I really am loving my 975! Hopefully someone will make an offer on the 1050 when I get my advert into the local paper & someone will keep using and enjoying it. <fingers crossed>

I'm in the same boat now, Pat. I've really fallen in love with the 975! I'm trying to decide now if I sell the 1050 or use keep it to employ a second system somewhere. If I can find a nice set of speakers that computer room could sure use some musical accompaniment...
