I'm using the 7.1 outputs from my Bluray player into the 7.1 inputs on my 990. Since the 990 is capable of bass managment with these inputs does it make sense to set all speakers to large (in the Bluray player menu) so the 990 can see full bandwidth on all channels coming in before doing it's bass managment? On the 990 I have everything set to small with a 80hz crossover as recomended by Definitive Tech for my speakers.

I'd be interested in the answer to the above also; at the moment, I've mirrored my settings in my BluRay player to my 990 (also using 7.1 inputs)settings....
My front speakers are also set to small, but I'm using 60hz as my crossover....

Set your bluray to large for all speakers in the bluray and let the 990 do the work. If you mirror your 990 settings in the bluray then you are actually stacking the crossover filters and your 3 dB point will now become a 6 dB point. Then when the 990 does bass managment you'll end up with a 3 dB dip at the crossover frequency.

Truthfully, my room inserts bigger dips and peaks in that frequency range but adjusting the cross over is easy and at least takes that error source out of the equation.

Makes sense to me. I used to have the Bluray set to small as well but then it seemed redundant. Thanks for the reply.

I currently have a Marantz SR5005 but had the 950 previously. I noticed the other day when sending a 4.0 signal to the SR5005 7.1 Analog inputs that my LFM-1 EX sub was not turning "On" meaning there wasn't a signal detected. I tried other sources without their own LF channel active and nothing. I called Outlaw and talked to someone (not Scott). I was told that "Most 7.1 inputs do NOT have Bass Management." My 950 had it via a toggle switch in the back. I could not find anything in the 990 manual but you might try a test to see if the 990 7.1 analog inputs DO have any Bass Management. The person on the phone said "It is expected that customers would do the Bass Management in the DVD/Blu-ray for the analog inputs." So my SR5005 does NOT have Bass Mgmt with the 7.1 analog inputs and I DO have to set my Oppo with speakers small to use it for a signal to my sub via the Oppo crossover from the other channels.

Not that I asked a question in my post above but I thought it may spark some additional comments. The reason is that besides my SR5005 (and most likely many other units) not including Bass Mgmt for the analog 7.1 inputs, obviously there isn't any signal processing of these inputs including speaker distance, room processing, etc. My Oppo rule of thumb setup was to always leave it's setting with speakers set to Large and Trim adjustments at 0. This has all changed. By contrast, The SR5005 analog STEREO inputs DO offer Bass Mgmt and the other processing. This is my input of choice for stereo to also use the Oppe 83se enhanced analog stereo outputs. Last comment is that the new Oppo models have dropped all analog video outputs. With the SR5005 you can only view analog video when using the analog STEREO input channels. Question, how do you view the Oppo video signal any longer when using a processor's analog STEREO audio inputs?
