Wow, another post from Renov8r that I agree with. Time for that annual physical.

I might sound like a kill joy but I am the kind of guy that wishes wine reviews would put samples through a gas chromatograph to identity the copounds responsible for different flavors and audio reviews would stick to measurable characteristics instead of subjective terms like "sweet, open, airy" other ridiculous phrases...
Well maybe we will see the 975 reviewed by Brent from S&V referenced above so we can see how it does in the lab. -Bob

Upsaling all video to 1080P is a big advantage for the 975. New audio codecs can be deciphered and it is smaller and should not generate as much heat.

I have noticed 2 things I would like to have seen. The menu system is NOT an overlay type so no volume onscreen or any thing. Should you need to go into the menu for anything no sound or video, everything stops until you go back. I would have liked renamable inputs as well.
I also don't seem to be able to make it play lossless Dolby or DTS but that may be my PS3 that I use for my player. I have it set for bitstream but best I get is Dolby EX or DTS up mix what ever that is.
The good side is great sound, much better then the 950. Need lots more time to fine tune things.
Can't say anything about the scaling since I use a DVDO edge, maybe some tests later on but I suspect the edge will be better.
Don't be afraid to use the lip sync, I had to set mine to 100 ms to get it close. I currently have the edge after the 975 so it's lip sync compensation is not in effect. May have to swap it back the other way.
Btw, the subwoofer DOES have a distance setting with all the other speakers.
Guess that's it for now.

If there is I don't see where. The menu system is pretty simple/primitive.
I'm also wondering about the video adjustments. Specifically if the default settings are "neutral" I like the idea of having them but need to know what is even.

I wouldn't fret much over the default video settings. Your TV or Projector is the device that has the most variability, unit-to-unit, over what you see. Get yourself a calibration disk set and use the video adjustments to tweek in the set. Note that even LEDs can vary noticably in color and intensity from run to run making it likely that the same model number TV will look different from its mates depending on when they are manufactured. Here's something that may help you with your PS3 issue: CNET PS3 Article

The article confirms what I read in a couple forums. For the video adjustments, they do nothing, at least on HDMI. I have a feeling they are used for the analog video inputs only. Btw, I have the spears & munsil disc as well as the DVDO has built in patterns that are output correctly so you can calibrate the TV, then the inputs have video adjustments so you can correct for flaws in the source device if needed. Pretty cool and the correct way to do it

I don't review electronics often, but I just heard Dan Kumin will be reviewing the 975 for Sound+Vision, and I expect he'll do a full suite of measurements on it.
