Hello all. Can someone tell me why the owners manual states not to use a standard iec cable? Thanks, Brian.

I don't know, but the only reason I see that makes sense to me is that the blades on the 990 and the terminals in the power cord don't match the IEC spec for size and/or spacing. I've seen cases where even a slight mismatch between the bade and the terminal creates a bad conection that heats up enough to cause a fire. (Thermal Event for those who don't like the f-word)

I'm not saying that WILL happen using an IEC cord with the 990, but it's possible.

I f you need another cable, call Outlaw to see if they have an extra. Other than that just use the supplied cable or spring for the latest snake oil power cord.

Its interesting but the same folks who brought us a $500 ethernet cable, Denon, don't seem to make a similar high quality power cord. You would think that they would have a model that smooths out power fluctuations through a tube fluffer wink that improves the soundstage and lifts the veil of indifference that smothers so many lower end audio products today.

Well all is not lost, it seems audioquest has just the product the OP needs to improve his 990 to the point of makeing those with unreturned 978 beta units envious. Audioquest NGR WEL Signature Series 6. Please read the glowing review comments this cable of cables has inspired.

Those with less decerning requirements can go with the lower cost Audioquest 10' NGR-10 power cord from the noted high end provider Best Buy grin
