Nice setup. You might want to consider a bigger air gap between your mono amps. They'll definitely overheat the way you've got them if you watch anything at close to reference levels (which is pretty loud..heh).

Cheers,

That really is a slick looking setup. Those monoblocks are cousins to the M200 and M2200, so they are going to run cooler than a typical monoblock. The 7700 could probably stand a bit more breathing room, but if the closet ventilation gets set up it might work out OK even with the small gap that it has.

Thanks for the comments. I'm concerned about heat too so there's a 12" box fan behind the equipment blowing directly onto the amplifiers and the door to the closet remains open all the time so no heat can build up.

Since we're in a condo with neighbors and all we tend to play things at relatively low levels more often than not and the amps don't even begin to get warm. But my wife and I are big movie fans and have a group of friends who get together for "movie night" as I'm sure many of us here do. On those nights we let the neighbors know that things may be moving around a bit. Thankfully we have the world's most easy going neighbors and a 12" thick firebreak wall between us helps too. Next Saturday's movie night feature is King Kong which we did not catch at the theater, I can hardly wait.

In a couple of weeks I'll begin the closet conversion project and the design ensures there will be plenty of space for everything to breathe and to install the rest of my stuff. I'll be keeping a photographic record of the project and will put the pics up as things progress.

Awesome Looking!!I love looking at this stuff. You have a great setup. A good friend of mine has a set of NHT's from 10 years ago. They still look and sound terrific. I am upgrading to the Outlaw 7700 in june. Why wait? Well I get to fly for free and my buddy and I every year for the pass 10 years go to the Home Theater show. This year it is in LA. I think that I should be able to get a pretty good price on the 7700. I spoke to Scott from Outlaw and he told me that I could make out good. The problem is getting that monster home. I am sure that I am not going to let them store it in the baggage compartment. Hopefully since I work for the airlines I will be able to store it in the closet on the plane. We shall see. Have not made up my mind whether to purchase the 990 processor or use my Yamaha 3300 receiver as a precessor. If the price is right we will talk.
How do you like your 990/7700?

Thanks rubbersoul. I've been through several generations of NHT speakers and I've always liked their sound. They can be a bit trying with poorly recorded material but with good recordings I can just close my eyes and be drawn right into it all.

How do I like the 990/7700? I love them. I wasn't really looking to replace my receiver but I happened to drop by the Outlaw site the day they announced the 990 and as soon as I saw it I decided I was going to give it a try. I had been watching Outlaw's products for some time but I just couldn't warm up to their appearance - shallow as that sounds - but the new look of the 990 just grabbed me. Soundwise my reaction was pretty much the same as many others I've read here and elsewhere with a very noticeable increase clarity and "discreteness" among the surround channels. Although I was sure that there had been some improvements in surround processing technology in the five years since my receiver was made I wasn't expecting the jump up in overall experience that the 990 delivered.

I predominantly listen to music and the two-channel performance of the 990 is also very very good and I've had quite a bit of fun trying two-channel music over PL-IIx. My bottom line on the 990/7700? I couldn't be happier.

Hey Mike, I thought that would be your answer in regards to the 990/7700. Perfect!
Aesthetics are important. I was kind of put off by the 990/7700 appearance at first but the more I looked at them I thought, hey they are really pretty cool looking.
I also listen to a lot of 2channel. I am a product of the 60's and that is the way ROCK should be listened too. There should be a warning label on the package requiring you to listen to it in stereo.
Thanks again, Mike
Frank

Agreed rubbersoul. I am also a proud two-channel-only man. Multi-channel simply doesn't work with music. At every live performance I have ever attended, regardless of the type of music, the music has always come from directly in front of me....not from all around. As cool and exciting and appealing as multi-channel may sound to some, it's just not for me and I don't think I'm missing anything. I'm very happy with two channel and no point in fixing something that isn't broken. Believe me, I get the same level of intensity and excitement listening to movies in two-channel. It all depends on your system being up to the task. I can't wait to get my Outlaw RR2150 receiver! I ordered a few weeks ago and it should be here any day now.

Tulane sorry that I did not respond sooner. Looks like you have a very nice set-up. Still in vinyl I see! Great, My next frontier.
Two Channel stereo is still just as entertaining as it was way back. I enjoy my movies in 5.1 and 6.1 however.
Music is a different enviorment. To me soothing is want I want my music to sound like and feel,no matter what kind of music that I am listening to.
