The Outlaw 1050 is at the top of my short list of receivers long with the Denon 2802, Pioneer Elite 35tx and Onkyo 696, and I wondered if anyone is using the Outlaw with Kef Q55s or other Kef speakers and how they sounded with this receiver. I'm getting into home theater for the first time and music performance is more important to me than movie sound.

I've heard some of KEF's larger speakers before and been very impressed. As for KEF users around here, I don't know of many (I saw a message you posted on Monday asking dbissett about his setup , but that's all I could find about KEF users). I would expect that the 1050 and the KEF's would be a pretty good match, though. ------------------ Gonk

Joe - Glad to see another KEF user...great speakers. See my reply to your inquiry on the "S-video vs. component thread".

I use the 1050 w/Q35 in the front and rear with Q95 as the center and I love it. Sound is beautiful, couldn't really ask for more, although those Kef Reference speakers are amazing, I'll stick with my Qs for the meantime. Fyi, KEF recently 'upgraded' all of their speaker lines with new models, so check out their webpage www.kef.com

Elrond, Thanks for the reply. I just ordered the 1050 yesterday and can't wait to here with my speakers. I just got the Q95c and Q15's for rears. Unfortunately I thought that the 1050 would shipped out of NH whereOutlaw is located and had it shipped UPS ground as I live only an hour away. But when I got the UPS tracking info I found that Outlaw must warehouse their electronics in CA! So I'll be waiting awhile for my 1050

I live about the same distance. I was wondering about the $65 shipping fee. Well worth it though!

Elrond - Thanks for the info about KEF's upgrade. The improved Q line looks excellent...both specs and appearance. Dang, makes me wish I'd waited a few months to buy what I did!

The new Q series does look good, but I wonder how going to a aluminum dome tweeter from a soft dome will affect the sound? The smooth highs are what I like about my system and metal domed speakers usually sound harsh to me. At least now I know why I got such a good price from an authorized dealer for the Q15.2s and the Q95.2c

Yes, I'd be curious as to how the metal tweeters sound as well. One of the things that attracted me to KEF more than any of the other speakers I was auditioning was the upper frequencies. I actually have the original Q35s, and not the .2s. It's be interesting if anyone has been able to compare the different iterations of the Q series. I once asked a salesman as to what the difference between the Q35s and the Q35.2s were, and he said something around a 10% improvement, but I find it very likely he didn't have a real clue A friend of mine has the Q35.2s, but he has different electronics as well, so I'm not sure exactly how they compare. They sounded pretty similar though.

I got the 1050 on Friday and spent all day yesterday wiring the rear surrounds and connecting everything to the receiver and the 1050 is everything I hoped for in sound! It replaced my 25+ year old Luxman integrated amp which had suberb sound and the Outlaw sounds as good for almost any thing I've listened to in stereo except for slightly less bass. But now being able to listen to DVDs in surround sound is amazing.
