Your greatest component bargain purchase?

Last year at a local flea market I've been frequently for years I found a NAD C521 CD player. One of the regulars had it. A guy with an old junky van with assorted well, junk. I discreetly walked over and after a little bargaining, bought it for $12. No remote, but it still works perfectly and sounds quite nice. I know it's probably hotter than a Vegas whore, but I figure at least it has a good home now. You guys have any stories of amazingly good deals you scored with your HT?

Thorens TD165 turntable, perfect shape, with a so-so cartidge and the manual. At a yard sale in suburban St. Louis for $10. Popped in my Shure V15-5MR and dumped my old Dual in the trash.

Years ago, when I worked at the store, one of my customers was remodeling the house of, shall I say, "a famous northern politician" (who will remain un-named).
He had some old McIntosh gear, which unfortunately was the old solid state variety, but also had... (drum roll please)... a Marantz 10B tuner.
The gear was all given to the contractor, who had no idea what it was or its collector value. After mutltiple phone calls to him, I offered to trade a new Denon receiver and our cheapest pair of speakers, which I picked up for dealer cost. He agreed. I then sold the two McIntosh components for what I had in the Denon receiver and speakers. So in effect, I got the 10B for free -- sort of: It was DOA and took extensive repairs to bring it back to life. But ultimately I got it cleaned up and working again, and now it remains a permanent part of my collection.
For a while the I thought it was the scam of the century. But looking back on it, in all likelihood he would have thrown the 10B out since it wasn't working. So in reality, I saved it from the garbage bin.

Not quite a component, but a $250 dollar equipment rack for $30 when a Magnolia just wanted to get rid of it.

I wish I had a sweet deal to share - but I don't. I've been lucky though outside the purchases. I received my Mode1 1070 as a birthday gift from my in-laws. I received my MKIV-12 sub as a birthday gift from my wife. And I won the Fathom F112 sub in a contest. Not bad, considering.
I'm a lucky (and grateful) guy all 'round. have been for years.

My biggest deal was on a "broken" Sunfire True Subwoofer Mk IV that I took a chance on and bought on eBay for $300. When I received it, it was obvious that somebody apparently had just stepped on a cable and broken the tip of a RCA plug inside one of the sub's inputs.

I know this is an old thread but just wanted to ad to it. In the late 90's I purchased the following for $750: 1 pair of JBL L7 speakers, 1 pair of JBL CF150 speakers, 1 JBL SC305 center speaker, 1 JBL PSW1200 subwoofer, 1 Harmon Kardon PA5800 power amp and a Harmon Kardon AVR25II Pro-Logic receiver. I still have them all except the AVR. The L7's are still used as my fronts, the CF150's were moved up to the living room for my wife's stereo. They were replaced with L5's for rear surrounds. The PA5800 was shelved in favor of a 7200. The AVR was trashed in favor of an Integra DTR 6.3. The SC305 has been shelved in favor of a CL505. This stuff was all slightly used but was being produced at the time of purchase.

Back in 1988 a friend of mine decided to go with all CDs because his 3 years old daughter wrecked the cartridge on his Technics SL 1200. He gave me the table and about a hundred albums for helping him move a piano with my truck. Replaced the cart, listened to some albums then put it away for about 20 years. Dug it out several years ago and it works fine.

A ways back a friend of mine was going through some problems and asked me to babysit his EV Georgian speakers (i.e. licensed copys of the Klipschorn). I got to enjoy those speakers for a number of years before he asked for them back. The only price I had to pay was to help him move them twice.
