Hi, I am wiring my under construction house with 14 guage speaker wires. Is that good enough for a HT?

Depends on a lot of factors. Length of run, final impedence of the speaker, amount of power you'll be running. Since you are in the construction phase go as large as reasonable. I recently did this and put in 12 awg, but I run 10 gauge for the mains. 14 awg for most will be just fine but with 12 awg there will be no doubt.

In my opinion 14 gauge is more than enough for the surrounds in a HT environment. New construction usually means shorter wire runs so 12 gauge would be overkill, 10 gauge is silly. All that being said it's your money and sometimes just feeling it's better is worth the extra bones.

the thing is my surrounds are on the other side of the room and I can't run thru the walls so from the receiver to the futhrest surruond is 46 feet I'm useing monster navajo now, so the extra gauge in the wire won't make a difference is that what you're saying Keta, I mean I don't think I'm losing any thing, I was just curious if bigger wire would help

The larger the wire the less the voltage drop over a long run. I usually run #12. I don't feel the manufacturer of the wire makes a differance. You do need to make sure the wire is rated to be installed in the walls thogh. Jim

I think the difference would be inappreciable. I have used the Monster Navajo and found nothing wrong with it at all. On my fronts and center I replaced the Monster with DIY Canare 4S11 covered with teflex, shrink tubing, banana plugs and spades. The Canare sounds 0% better, but it sure looks cool.
If you don't think you are losing anything, (I would agree) then the larger wire won't help.
Look at it this way, more copper between your amp and speakers won't improve the sound as long as what you have is sufficient. If my 4 gauge jumper cables would improve the sound of my speakers I would use them, but they won't.

Hey SS1, keep these speaker wires away from power line in the wall or near AC units. Good luck with the home theather project.
