I know I really liked the 950. it was a game changer when it came out. All us poor audiophiles could finally move into separates at a much lesser cost than the current market offerings at the time. I am not sure the same can be said about the 978 unless it comes in ~$1K

Interestingly, the Yamaha is not made in China but Malaysia. With all the talk on the forum about China I had to check this out. Is Yamaha the singer/songwriter of the AVR's, designed by Yamaha staff and built in Yamaha factories? I wonder if that is true? Hmmm, that might be a good tag line for them. smile -Bob
