Hi All:

Amazon dropped the price on Yam another $70 and they refunded me the difference. I had to ask because it is against their policy to offer post price protection but they agreed. What a deal!

Help me out here, I never hear differences in electronics but when I hooked the new Yam up tonight it hit me right away in 2 channel. The mid bass seemed to be better than my 950. The sub seemed to blend better with my mains and imaging was improved as well. Switching from the internal amps on the Yam to my Outlaw 7100 made no difference that I could detect so the missing piece is the 950. Is it possible my 950 could have degraded over time, any truth to that? I wish I could get it to work so I could really see if my ears are playing tricks on me. In any case I am real happy with the Rx-A700.

Buying anything is like buying cars. What you find 10 years ago in a Lexus is mostly in today's Chevrolet's. the same principle has happened here. Except the tech in electronics is faster. So it's possible the sound from the 950 has been leapfrogged by a middle of the road AVR. I have been hearing that the Aventage line is top quality stuff though.

Xenonman: Why offer a competing processor if you are about to release your own flagship model 978? Hmmmm...

Completely agreed! Makes me wonder!

It's good to heat that you're enjoying the Yamaha. As far as the audio comparison between the Yamaha and 950. Are you utilizing the Yamaha YPAO? What was the setting on the 950 as far as EQ?

YPAO will definitely get into the guts of the settings and create an audible difference which some like and some don't. You are obviously happy with the sound which is all that matters.

There was an article/interview recently with some of the Yamaha engineers and designers discussing the Adventage line and they were pretty up front about how the goal was to focus on music and audio. From your post we can conclude that they delivered. Add to that the price and rebate you obtained and you received great value, congratulations and keep us posted on your experience.

"Xenonman: Why offer a competing processor if you are about to release your own flagship model 978? Hmmmm..."

Simple reason: cash flow. Everybody's gotta have it. CFO's require it. Whether the 978 comes out in June or October, Outlaw needs continuing and hopefully, increased cash flow.

Which Yamaha are you guys talking about? The RX-A3010 looks OK, but I don't think I'd choose it over comparatively priced Onkyo/Integra or Denon/Marantz units.

On paper it appears that the Yamaha RX-A1010 and RX-A2010 are pretty comparable to the Denon 3312 and Marantz 6006. The elephant in the room is Yamaha's YPAO which some like and some don't. The Yamaha 2010 has received some very good reviews with respect to music and audio.

If you follow Amazon, the prices go up and down $100.00 on a regular basis. This morning the A1010 was $899 and the Denon 3312 was $999.00 but now they have both gone back to $999 and $1099.

I'm still surprised that Yamaha still offers legacy connections such as S-Video which is a great thing for some.

Especially us Outlaws that are still using "antiques". (Just kidding Scott and Pete, we're trying to keep it light around here)

Issuing the 978 is the surest way to increase the cash flow Outlaw needs. Offering a competing product at a price much less than what the 978 will debut for seems to reduce the available customer base for the 978. My real concern is that it doesn't sound like the 978 is being released soon if the sales model continues to be the way it has been for 3 years for the processors.

I'm wondering if the the fact that Outlaw does not have a branded receiver or processor available is having a detrimental effect on their amplifier sales. I believe that they are known mostly for their amplifiers. Having the Marantz receivers available may keep their amplifier sales going.

The question is, what do they do once the 978 is available? How do you keep the 978 and Marantz products available together on the same page? As you stated, the 978 will be higher priced and as others have stated, the features list is going to be disproportionate. It sure is going to be interesting.
