Hi guys. I have my 990 hooked to my TV via optical digital. One problem I have is that, when I switch from a station broadcasting 5.1 to one broadcasting in stereo, the 990 will automatically default to Dolby Pro Logic II: Movie mode instead of remembering the mode I used the last time I selected a stereo channel.

So what happens is when I select my preferred stereo TV listening mode and then switch to a HDTV station and back, I have to select my stereo mode again since it has been set to Dolby Pro Logic II: Movie.

To be clear, my preferred listening mode for stereo channels is in fact stereo, not one of the surround upsample modes. Is it supposed to do this, and is there anything I can do about it? Maybe a firmware patch?

See page 25 of the manual. It sounds like the stations are switching in and out of PCM or Dolby Digital 2.0 and the 990 is trying to follow.

So is there no way to force it to go into stereo mode instead of Dolby Pro Logic IIx when that happens?

This may be overkill, but you could always add an analog connection from the TV to the 990.
