I've owned my 990 for awhile, but have always used it in a 5.1 setting. Now that I've moved, I use it in a 2.1 setting (front mains and a sub).

One thing that bugs me is that when I go to set speaker size, my 990 won't let me set the center channel to "none", I have to select small or large. I saw that other people had this problem years ago, but in the 200 pages of threads, I didn't really find any answer.

I have the latest software update, so I wasn't sure if there were any other work arounds. About the only thing I can think of is just set "Stereo" as the default surround mode for all inputs.

I haven't cracked the manual in a while, but isn't there a phantom mode that you would use in this situation?

If the center channel is connected to the amp from the 990 it will sense during auto calibration that the channel is there and will set its size. It does this to allow 5 or 7 channel stereo. When I listen in 2.1 I am in stereo upsample. Either way, when listening to 2 channel stereo, you should not hear the center channel. I have 5 channels connected to my 990 even though I only use 2 channels and the 990 sensed no speaker but won't allow me to set the center and both surrounds to none.
