Just purchased a 990 via AudiogoN for $360 shipped. Will be a replacement for my aging Adcom GTP-600 + GDD-1. Actually the GTP-600 is only used as a tuner input for the GDD-1 at this point, with the GDD-1 being my primary pre/pro, utilizing digital outputs from the TV, CD player and Blu-Ray.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing what this thing can do. I figure for the price I got it, if I decide I don't like it, I can flip it on eBay fairly quickly.
Will be pairing it with my excellent Adcom GFA-6000 5-channel amp. Like the amp a whole lot more than the rest of the stuff. GTP-600 has a noise floor just a smidge higher than I would like. GDD-1 is much better in that regard, but as a digital pre/pro, it's about as basic as they come. Lacks all kinds of features, and worst of all, thumps or cracks when the signal is interrupted... Which happens when changing channels or bringing up the TVGOS.
Thought about getting an Outlaw amp just to keep things pretty, but I don't have and will not have a 7-channel setup (not enough walls), and their only 5-channel offering, the 7500, is too large to fit the available space. I would think that there are still quite a few people stubbornly sticking with 5.1. Outlaw should make more 5-channel choices, IMO. Would love to see something the size of the 7125 with 5 balanced channels.

I think you will like the 990. I certainly did. If your happy with the GFA-6000 and are only looking for a cosmetic improvement, then I am not sure you can go wrong with running 5 channels into the 7125. Personally, unless you are in a very noisy electrical environment, I am not sure that the paying extra for just balanced inputs is worth it.

That's not quite what I was saying. My point, was that if you looking for cosmetics, the 7125 would be a more than equal replacement for the GFA-6000, because as far as I can tell, the 7125 has more power and cleaner power than the GFA-6000. I should have stated this more clearly in my original response, I am basing this upon Outlaw's and Adcom's published specs (reentered below).
7125 - 7 x 125 watts RMS at 8 ohms, all channels driven from 20 Hz to 20kHz with less than 0.05% THD
GFA-6000 - 3x100 watts continuous average power at 8 ohms, all channels driven from 20 Hz to 20kHz with less than 0.09% THD - 2x60 watts continuous average power at 8 ohms, all channels driven from 20 Hz to 20kHz with less than 0.09% THD
However, it is your choice, and you are in the position to do this one step at a time.

Consistency can be pretty, but I would have a dreadfully hard time justifying replacing an amp for aesthetic reasons alone. And that was my point. I will admit that I did assume my 6000 was more powerful because it is roughly the same size as the 7125, but with less channels. But truthfully I don't really care about the power. The 6000 sounds great and I have no reason to replace it, other than my desire to have everything match. But aesthetics will always take a back seat to sound. Well... Almost always. I've seen some equipment that I just wouldn't buy because it was so ugly. If I can find a 7125 at a ridiculous bargain price I'll pick it up and compare the two at home. Otherwise I will be sticking with the 6000.

you can also use them to bi-amp your mains.
