...when we were thinking of subwoofers. Amp is the PE 1000W, drivers are Elemental Designs 16kv2. In-room (and using the parametric eq in the amp) flat down to 25Hz.

that is one cool lookin' sub,i could almost see it sitting right here, although i'd prefer 12's and a big port on the front!
i second the notion of an OUTLAW plate amp! i'd slap one in my MONITOR ASW-210 right now! SCOTT are you listening?250/300 watts @ 8 ohms, around 500 @ 4 ohms.around $200,i'm in.

i guess we have to have an assortment of amps to choose from,i just want a good one for my sub, kinda leary about what's available and 1000w@8 would SMOKE my drivers (2 8 ohm paralleled) quicker than i smoked that cheesy amp that was built in.but killer's price is right!

nope, killer, that's wrong.you are going backwards.if i had a 600w @ 8,and put 2 in series for 16 ohm and used a 600 w @8 ohm amp then the amp would work half as hard with the easier load, around 300@ 16 OHM,or something to that effect.but being as i have 2 drivers in the same enclosure,i'll keep them paralleled for integrity(and to keep it as tight as possible)although before i took my subs out of my truck i had 4 4ohm subs,series/parallel to maintain 4 ohms, but all in separate enclosures so i didn't feel bad about what i would consider a basket case.if i would of had an 1 ohm stable amp i would have paralled all of them. i've messed with various configurations with them subs, and 2 running @ 4 ohms dual mono had better sq than 2 series @ 8 ohms mono , i lost even more sq but gained spl running 4@4 ohms which is why i've taken out the subs and am redoing it,back to dual mono 4's.i'm getting too old for the major spl, although i enjoy driving by hardee's where all the kid hang out with their "i paid so-n-so to install this for x $'s" and all heads turn in disbelief, how can an s-10 be that loud?

btw, since my asw-210 originally had a 200 w amp, then a 500 w amp would give me MORE than enough headroom to avoid the dreaded clipping.

Also, parallel drivers won't give you any advantages of tightness...
