Hi,
I use a Sonos unit as one audio source of my 990, via its OPT1 optical input. My system has 5 mono amps driving my 5 speakers, and a powered subwoofer for LFE.
I like to have a stereo listening mode that includes l+r and sub for critical listening. And I like to have a "all the speakers are playing" mode for parties etc. I have set this up as follows:
"5 Spkrs" config, with Optical 1 as its input, and surround mode set to 5CH STEREO.
"2 Spkrs" config, with Optical 1 as its input, and surround mode set to STEREO.
I've noticed that my subwoofer is much more engaged in 5CH STEREO mode, than in STEREO mode: If I put the system at approximately the same loudness to compare the two, the 5CH STEREO has a good bit more bass than STEREO for the same loudness setting. Is this by design, or perhaps I might have something not set up quite right?
Thanks,
-Jeff
