I first read this string a few weeks ago and unfortunately don't get back to the Hideout often enough. I had to trim down my 7.1 system when the house was rearranged. Moving from the full long room to a much smaller section required me to 'loose' the rear surrounds (two Outlaw BLS) and only run 5.1. Since I run a Outlaw 950 and use the Oppo-83SE for prime audio, I'm used to only 5.1 with the 950's limit of 5.1 analog inputs. Surrounding myself with my Outlaw LCS speakers in a smaller area sounded nice but now the front sound stage was more direct and less "room filling". After reading this string and thinking about the two BLS speakers and two channels of my Outlaw 770 amp going to waste I came up with a change. Maybe this is not Outlaw recommended but I used two 'Y' connectors to send the 950 outputs left and right fronts to the unused rear left and right surround channels of the 770. I then used these two front channels to power the BLS speakers mounted high, front left and right. They aren't directly above the front left and rights but a little wider at about 40 degrees where the lower fronts are about 30 degrees. The result? First and foremost is that this configuration does NOT allow for balance or individual crossover adjustment between the lower LCS and higher BLS speakers. The plus side is that I now have very full left and right front. This matched very well with the left and right surrounds also being mounted high just behind the listening position. I'm still playing with specific placement but again have 7.0 individual powered channels that sound larger with the sub still singing solid. The BLS do add more lower end with their ported cabinet design and I reduced my sub output some to compensate. I need to live with this setup more but my current review is a very good solid sound with a smoother transition of sounds transitioning from front to back.
