Got a Roku box for Xmas (plays Netflits)

I have it hooked up with composite video direct to TV

When I use analog cables it works fine on any video 1-4 (on the outlaw control)

When I try to use a toslink optical audio cable it will not work (even when I reconfigure)

Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks

Assuming you've set up the Model 1070's input to use that optical connection and it still didn't work, I can think of a few possibilities.

1. Bad optical cable. In this case, trying a different cable would be a good test.
2. Bad optical input on the 1070. In this case, trying a different optical input would be a good test.
3. Bad optical output on the Roku. Trying a different optical source with the same cable and input on the 1070 would be a good test.

All of these assume that there's no setting in the Roku that has disabled the optical output and no setting in the 1070 that has been overlooked. To check those, we should know what settings you have already adjusted on the Model 1070.

Thanks-your points got me to checking & the system worked with my CD player.

So I checked & sure enough I had to change the Roku from analog to digital. But when I hooked it up it still did not work when I activated the Roku. So as a last try I started a movie & it worked.

I was not aware that the Outlaw shows analog until it senses a signal & then it activated the digital systems & starts to play.

That feature can be disabled for each input - it's called "auto poll". Folks with digital cable boxes that didn't output any digital audio when playing analog stations could use auto poll to revert back to analog automatically, but those boxes have largely disappeared over the last few years and the feature is more of a hassle than a benefit for other sources.

See page 27 of the manual - under each input screen of INPUT CONFIG, there is an option called AUTO POLL that can be set to ON or OFF. In your case, the Roku's assigned input can be set to OFF and the 1070 will always use the assigned digital audio input, even if there's no signal currently being output by the Roku.
