Actually, they offered $300 for the Model 990 and $200 for the Model 970, and they payed for the shipping on the returned units:

Quote:
For those who presently own an Outlaw Model 990 or Model 970 processor, purchasing the Marantz AV 7005 from the Outlaws will qualify you for a unique, limited time only offer. At the end of your 30-day evaluation period, if you decide to keep the AV 7005 you are eligible to participate in a buyback program for your Model 990 or Model 970 surround processor. This offer is good for 20 days after the completion of your 30-day "evaluation period" of the AV 7005. You must return the processor to us in good working condition with all of the original accessories, including the original remote control(s) (and EQ mic for the Model 990). We'll even pay the return freight and, upon receipt and inspection of your returned processor, you'll receive $300 for a Model 990 or $200 for a Model 970.**

That means they paid shipping on the units, received the units, tested the units, updated firmware if needed, and cleaned them up if needed. In addition, they are providing a one-year warranty on the units when they re-sell them. All of that involves costs to them. Yes, they still make a profit, but it's not much of one. It seems like a far cry from a rip-off to me...
