Trinnov is supposed to be pretty remarkable and according to some reports better than Audessey, but not sure about XT etc. With the latest systems supporting 9.2 and 11.2 setups I was wondering if this is something Trinnov will or does support?

With the latest systems supporting 9.2 and 11.2 setups I was wondering if this is something Trinnov will or does support? Room correction can be scaled to any number of output channels. For example: ADA is releasing a 12-channel outboard Trinnov box to pair with their custom install pre-pros. http://www.ada.net/literature/product_data.php?download=TEQ_Cutsheet.pdf&d=productdatasheets

That leads to my next question and probably only Outlaw could answer it. with the rate of process to 9/12 systems, will outlaw offer a unit with 9.2 or 11.2 or perhaps include those in the 998? I don't know if the product specs have been finalized, but the 978 has had some scope creep.

The Model 978 will have Audyssey of some form, not Trinnov. In both cases, though, the bigger question will be how many channels of D/A conversion will be supported. The AV7005, for example, has pre-outs for 11 channels (including height channels and "wide" channels), but only eight channels of DAC's. As a result, the room correction only has to operate with seven speakers and a sub at any given time. Right, and that's why I'm most curious about the 998. The 997 was 7.1 even though it had Dolby PLIIz, which supports 9.1. I am curious if Outlaw will provide 9.1 or 11.1. It's probably more than most people will use, but we're starting to see it more and more. I guess I'm looking for outlaw to toss me a bone.

I thought the entire purpose of 9.x or 11.x was to convert a smaller number of discrete via processing into a 9.x or an 11.x output. It would seem that if you only have 8 DACs and one is for the sub, then at most you are getting is 7 channels with no wide or height processing occuring.

Retep I guess I'm looking for outlaw to toss me a bone. How much extra would this cost? How big is the market for this? No free lunch, I'm afraid. On the other hand, if the competition has 11 channels, than the Oulaw's marketing division will want to stay feature competitive.

I know I am going to get skinned for this but.........How many people actually have 7.1 setups? Out of the 30 HT's I personally visit only two that are 7.1 so from my view 9.x support is waaay down on the list of features.
Maybe someone can school me on this but I thought the amount of 7.1 content was limited, let alone 9.x?

Finally finished the klipsch system, but my MK system has been 7.1 for nearly 3 years. Just because content is 5.1 doesn't mean your limited to that as in EX 6.1 and PLIIx 7.1. I also watch football games and listen to some music in 7.1 stereo. It's nice to have the rear channels outputting the game near the bar.

I know I am going to get skinned for this but.........How many people actually have 7.1 setups? Out of the 30 HT's I personally visit only two that are 7.1 so from my view 9.x support is waaay down on the list of features. My theater is set up for 7.1, but I don't plan to go beyond that. Looking at my other friends with home theaters, none are beyond 5.1 and a couple aren't even using that many speakers. I think it's safe to say that 7.1 systems are not standard, and systems moving up to 9.1 or 11.1 are extremely rare. Maybe someone can school me on this but I thought the amount of 7.1 content was limited, let alone 9.x? Native 7.1 content is rare, and at present no native 9.1 or 11.1 content exists on consumer formats. The only way to engage all those speakers is to use matrix processing modes. Those of us with 7.1 speaker setups have been using such modes for years to expand stereo and 5.1 sources to 7.1 - modes such as Pro Logic IIx, DTS Neo:6, Dolby Digital EX, THX Surround EX, and proprietary modes such as Cirrus Extra Surround (on the Model 950) or Logic 7 (on Lexicon and some Harmon Kardon gear). What's happening now is the arrival of new modes that move beyond 7.1 - Pro Logic IIz offers support for height speakers (a theoretical 9.1 if also using back surrounds) and Audyssey DSX offers support for height and/or wide speakers (a theoretical 9.1 or 11.1 if also using back surrounds).
