I've got a Panasonic DMP BD85 and I'm using the BD85's internal decoders and the 7.1 analog outputs into the 7.1 inputs on the 990. My question is what processing, if any, is the signal(s) from the BD 85 getting. Are the 7.1 inputs taken into the digital domain and processed for x-over, distance, bass management or is the analog signal passed through and I need to do the setup in the Panasonic. Thanks in advance for your reply.

My BDP-93/Model 990 and BDP-83/Model 990 setup guides offer some suggestions about setting up a BD player with the Model 990. The player settings are specific to OPPO's players, so they can't be transferred directly over to the BD85, but it will help you understand. Basically, bass management is provided at the Model 990, so as a general rule you want to set all speakers to "large", all levels to "0", and all distances to "0" in the player.

One additional tidbit:
The Panasonics have a High Clarity Audio mode that they recommend enabling and turning on if you are using HDMI for video and the 7.1 analog audio outputs.

What it does is turns off the analog video output drivers and (so Panasonic claims) reduces the noise on the audio outputs.
