The BDP-93 has a quick setup wizard just like the BDP-83 did. Use HDMI1 to connect to your 3D plasma, connect the multichannel analog to the Model 990, select "HDMI1" for the video priority, select 1080p for the output resolution (assuming your panel will take 1080p), select "compatible" audio, and you should be all set. Once that's all done, there are a few things you can check in the player's setup menu.

This page is still a good guide. There are a few differences. First, secondary audio can be set to "on" now without any harm (the player has the processing power to decode lossless and mix in secondary audio). I'd set the LPCM rate to "192k" based on some recent discussion among the beta testers. Also, the speaker setup screen now has an option for test tones, but in your case it doesn't matter - set it up just the same way you did with the BDP-83 (all speakers large) since you're using the Model 990.

Gonk have some questions for you with the BDP-93 Setup followed everything I could on your 990/83 guide:

Playback Setup: I'm not doing SACD so do I leave everything in this menu to default?

Video Setup:
Picture Adjustment - just leave this alone?
1080p24 Output - default is set to Off is this ok?
HDMI Options - leave at defaults?
Display Options - leave at defaults?

Audio Processing: crossover default is 80Hz is this ok?

So far I'm impressed great video and audio the only negative is the remote isn't very responsive I'm hoping once I get it programmed to my MX-810 things will improve.

Yes, defaults should all be fine.

I have 1080p24 turned on, but my display also supports 24p. If yours does, I'd enable it. I also disable the sceensaver under Display Options, but that's just me. Also, if you plan to use 3D, you should probably set your screen size. For 2D modes, it isn't really important and you can leave it on the default of 46".

Since you're using the 990, you should have all speakers set to large. Therefore, the crossover isn't actually being used. Doesn't matter what it's set to since it isn't being used.

I believe I have everything set right then there were a few setting options different on the 93 but your 990/83 guide covered a lot. My Samsung PN58C8000 has what's called Cinema Smooth for 1080p24 content but professional reviews have said it causes a loss of black level performance and I've never been able to find out if Samsung has fixed this or not so I've been leaving it off.

I'm assuming if I want to listen to cds then I don't have to change any settings just let her play.

I've generally avoided 24Hz modes that "smooth" the video, which is probably what your Samsung is offering, because they tend to affect the video picture quality. With my Sony TV, I can disable that mode and still send it 24p video - the TV just shows each frame five times.

Yep.

Gonk since I'm using the 93's 5.1 analog outputs (boy do they sound smooth) is there any reason to have an optical connection?

Not particularly. The only time I'd see you potentially using an optical or coaxial output is with DVD's if you had a 7.1 speaker setup and wanted to use PLIIx. You could always set up a spare input with a digital output from the player so you could play around with it, but only if you want to - you can certainly just use the 7.1CH input and not worry about it.

Since I've had the 93 I've been trying to follow the AVS Pre-Release thread pertaining to questions about using a media server with the 93 but most of it is over my head since I'm not familiar with some of the files they are talking about and have never used a media server before.

I've tried Serviio and it works great with the 93 but doesn't support Wav or Flac files so I need a server to do that, free would be nice but willing to buy if necessary.

1.I've seen mentioned Mezzmo, Twonky, and TVersity which would be best?

2. I backup a lot of my dvds to my hard drive as ISO files and it sure would be nice to stream them to my Samsung Plasma but apparently media servers don't support ISO files unless you buy something like Boxee. Is there any way to watch my ISO files over one of the above servers by somehow converting them to something else and if so how would I do that?
