I've had a 990 working daily in a customer's home theater room for about 5 years. Recently, it started acting strangely wrt volume control from the remote.
When the up vol or down vol buttons from the remote are pressed :
-60% of the time nothing happens
-20% of the time it works as it should
-20% of the time the volume jumps up or down at least 20 db! Sometimes this goes from almost no volume to the max volume in about 2 seconds. When it is doing this, turning the front volume control does nothing until it hits the max volume.

Steps I've taken:
-checked with aftermarket remote, and Outlaw remote, same symptoms
-checked using remote through IR blaster system (hot link xl) and directly into front of receiver, at various distances, same symptoms
-disconnected rs-232 cable from control system, makes no change in the symptoms
- unplugged and re plugged receiver to no avail. Also tried different inputs and surround settings, makes no difference.

Anybody have ideas on what I can do to fix this?
Thank you,
Mike

I can't think of a solution, especially since I don't recall hearing of this issue with other Model 990's. I'd probably start with Outlaw Support (either at that link or 866-688-5292).
