I'm looking to pick up the BDP-93 as soon as it's released and even though it has dual HDMI outputs for 3D if you're using it with the Outlaw 990 you will still need to use the analog 5.1/7.1 outputs for BD (and probably would want to for Dvds) correct?
Currently I'm running my Samsung 6900 (3D BD) directly to my 3D Samsung plasma via HDMI and the analog 5.1 outputs to the 990 for BD (optical for Dvds) so I'm assuming this would be the same with the 93 although I'd want to use 5.1 for both.
I've read about the features for the BDP-93 but does anyone foresee it being different enough (besides 3D & streaming) from the BDP-83 that you couldn't use Gonk's Setup guide for the 990/83?

I used the 83 with my 990 for awhile and it was excellent. I have it connected to my 886 now but it still is fabulous. It has a few more connections but it will still connect to the 990 for audio perfectly. You could then use the DVI connection with an adapter or go direct to the display for 3D video.

I will be posting again here when the Oppo 93 is released so I can get your help Gonk in hooking it up to my 990 but in the meantime I plan on giving my Samsung BD-C6900 http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/BD-C6900/XAA to my son so I have some questions. He doesn't have a surround receiver or A/V processor but rather the Outlaw RR2150 used with pretty good speakers (about $1500), oppo BDP-80, 50" Plasma in a 2-channel system. It's used in a smaller room and actually sounds really good whether it be playing cds or dvds all audio is ran through the 2150 so it is all analog. Since the 2150 doesn't include digital inputs (HDMI/Optical) would you still be able to take advantage of the higher quality analog 7.1 True HD outputs of the Samsung BD by connecting only the front R/L outputs to stereo inputs of the 2150? Or would you need to use the regular analog R/L stereo outputs of the Samsung BD? I'm trying to get an idea if it's possible you could gain any better audio quality with a BD player hooked up to the Outlaw 2150 compared to a dvd player (his BDP-80)?

I should be able to offer a few thoughts on the BDP-93 once it's available...
The system itself is stereo, so whatever you do you'll need to get to a downmixed stereo output from the player. If you use the left and right channels of the 7.1 analog output, you'll need to set the player to downmix to stereo - otherwise, the center, surround, and LFE channels will be lost. The stereo output should always get a downmixed signal - the Samsung manual doesn't seem to want to bother to make that explicit, but it should be happening and there's a downmix setting (page 37 of the manual) that doesn't appear to have an "off" setting, making me think it may determine what gets sent to the stereo output. For the RR2150, I'd prefer "Normal Stereo". The left/right portion of the 7.1 output will only get a downmixed signal if you set the player up for that. I can't tell from the manual, but I think you can set the center, surrounds, back surrounds, and sub to "Off" in the Speaker Setting menu, which should create a stereo downmix from the 7.1 analog output (fronts would need to be set to "Large"). Frankly, the stereo output is probably easier in this scenario. Sound quality should be basically the same, although I don't know what DAC's they're using for each output. On the BDP-83, for example, OPPO used a somewhat better chip and analog design for the stereo output, so folks tend to gravitate to that output when using that player in a setup such as this.

Well we'll just use normal stereo then was hoping the audio quality would be better using the Samsung BD via 2-channel but heck it might not even be as good as the Oppo 80 (I certainly hope that's not the case).
Looking forward to your thought on the BDP-93!

I'm with Gonk on this one. Is there an overriding reason to not use the BDP-80 as the Blu-ray source for movies and everything else?

Gonk I will be getting a BDP-93 delivered on Sat and the way I understand it there is presently no manual, I have been following the threads on the AVS Forum but some of the conversation is a little over my head.
I assume I will still need to run the video via HDMI out of the 93 into my Samsung 3D Plasma and then use the 5.1 outputs of the 93 into the 990 like I'm currently doing with my Samsung BD, it's too bad I won't be able to take advantage of the dual HDMI outputs.
The setup process of the 93 is what I'm a little worried about not knowing which option to select during the setup. Do you know enough about the 93 yet to provide a guide or tips or should I just try to follow your Setup guide for the 990 and 83 as much as possible. The 93 has more options so I realize it won't be the same as the 83 but I would like to get the major settings right.
