I just configured the 990 to "large" with my Vanderstein 2's. Everything sounds great, but there is too much bass. The bass is overpowering. Please let me know what I might do to correct this problem. The bass is excessive even with my Hsu subwoofer turned off.

Thank you in advance,

Aaron

With the 990 set to "large" for the front speakers, no signal should be going to your sub. Since all of the bass is coming from the V-2s, you might want to experiment with their placement. Have you tried setting the 990 to "Small" with a Xover of 60 or 80hz. That would take the V-2s out of the picture at least temporarily so you could compare the effects. Make sure your bass and treble controls a set to neutral so you are not artificially boosting the bass.

One possibility is that you'd have the sub set to "LFE+L/R" - that doubles-up bass from both fronts and sub - but if it happens even with the sub off, I don't think that's your problem. Placement adjustment would be worth trying, as would a small setting and a 40Hz or maybe 60Hz crossover.

Hello Gonk - Thank you very much for your ideas. I will try them as well. Since there are only two speakers, I will try bypass and stereo modes and make sure that the treble and bass are neutral. I will try the crossover as well as the placement upon your recommendation. Thanks again, Aaron
