Hey guys,

I upgraded my 970 to a 990 last year, and because it has been working so well (as in "perfectly"), I haven't had a reason to be back here at the Saloon for a while.

Now that I'm back - whoa!! - a lot has happened!

First - this is the first I've seen of the new makeover for the Saloon (very snazzy, guys!),
Second - first I've heard about the end of the 997 story ... yikes,
Third - the 990 is now discontinued?? And Outlaw is not listing any stand-alone pre/pros on their site any more??

How'd that happen? I understand that there's a lot of anticipation of the 998, but why aren't they selling any more 990s?

I can answer that. They are totally sold out. They are now collector's items and for those that are using them they will provide years of enjoyment.

As you know, in this interim period we are offering a trade-in towards the Marantz processor. Our 990 trade-in value is high because this product continues to have tremendous respect in the market. It sounds great and as you know, it is extremely reliable-something that in itself is worth the money.

I couldn't believe that the 990 could have discontinued because it was no longer considered worthy to be included in the Outlaw lineup! That it has sold out is a testament to how well received it has been, and I'm sure there are good business reasons why another production run while we're waiting for the 998 wouldn't make sense.

I'm so happy with the 990 that I'll have no trouble waiting until something really huge comes along to take its place.

are we ever going to see any new Outlaw preamp??

See the Model 998 forum - there's a unit in development now, but it will be the tail end of 2010 at the earliest before we're likely to see hardware.
