Has anyone else experienced problems with the quality of the NetFlix DVDs? It seems like every other DVD (usually BluRay) I receive from NetFlix has problems and either won't load/play or will skip, flutter, go into intermittent slow motion, and/or stop. I don't think it is my player (which is a Samsung BDP 1200) as my child's DVDs seem to work fine.

Assuming NetFlix has quality issues, do they ever replace their older DVDs with new copies similar to how the Treasury takes old money out of circulation and replaces it with crisp?

I look forward to hearing back from you.

I've played dozens of Netflix DVD's and BD's over the last few years, and have not had a problem with them. BD's were played in my Panasonic BD30 originally, but for the last 18 months or so I've been using the BDP-83.

As for Netflix's disc maintenance, my understanding is that they do take discs out of service after a certain number of rentals and replace them.

Gonk, thanks for the feedback, yet again. Perhaps, then, it is my BluRay player which is one of the early generations.

Possible - Samsung's BD players don't have the best reputation, unfortunately, and it may be more sensitive to minor variations.

I was having a lot of problems playing Netflix DVDs also. I've started cleaning them with Windex before playing them and this has eliminated problems almost entirely.

I had problems in the past with some Neflix DVDs that my Pioneer Elite 59AVi, didn't seem to like. Cleaning them made things better or eliminated the problems. Over the past year my BDP-83 has not had problems with Netflix DVDs or Bluray disks, although I think I had to clean one because it was skipping.

I have on occasion received a broken disk, or one with obvious bad scratches, but the breakage may have happened in shipping. After I reported the problem online they sent another the next day.

The one problem I had with a Netflix DVD turned out to be on my side. This one disc would go screwy in exactly the same spot no matter how many replacements they sent, so I decided to pop it into my laptop. When it played fine on the computer I made the decision to replace my old DVD player with an Oppo DV-980H. No problems with Netflix DVDs since.

UPDATE: I started cleaning my Netflix discs with Windex, and it definitely improved things. But, the real improvement occurred once I updated the firmware for my BDP-1200 this weekend. Since then, I have watched 3 movies without a hitch when previously they would not play, or hang up, or stop and start every few seconds. Therefore, I have a little reprieve before having to put out for the Oppo BDP-83 or its successor (I am waiting for the Outlaw 998 to come out so I can take advantage of all the codes through HDMI).
