i have a comcast cable box dct3416 I with an hdmi out to dvi in on my 990. my 990 goes dvi out to hdmi in on my pioneer pro 111fd. i also have an oppo opdv-971H that goes dvi - dvi into the 990. i have been experiencing intermittent dropouts of picture when i turn the system on to watch from the cable box (sound is fine). the fix for this has been to remove and reconnect the dvi to hdmi cable from the 990 to the pioneer (have not tried removing and reconnecting the hdmi from the cable box yet). i have not yet experienced the problem wih the oppo. my guess is that it is an issue with the cable box hdmi and the 990. i had previously had this system connected with a scientific atlantic 8300hd and did not have this problem. it is infrequent (1-2 times a week) but annoying. any thoughts?

These sorts of issues generally are related to HDCP handshakes. You may want to look for a pattern in what order you are turning devices on - the cable box may want to be turned on after the TV and 990, so that both of those devices are on when the box tries to get its initial handshake. The 971H does not use HDCP, since it isn't a required part of the DVI spec, so there's no issue to be had there.
