I continue to read posts here, AVS, etc. on implementing the BDP-83'SE' benefits. I came very close to purchasing the 990 just to get 7.1 analog inputs. It seems our pure analog inputs with bass management gives us some of the best sound to utilize the SE benefits. The ICBM is now sought after to get the same bass management in a pure analog environment. The stereo bypass inputs through CD are beautiful and the 5.1 bypass does the same for multichannel. Am I correct that the 990 does not offer the same pure analog pass through with bass management?

Yes, you are correct. The Model 990 is based on a Sherwood design, and as a result Outlaw wasn't able to outfit it with the multichannel analog bass management that the Model 950 and Model 970/1070 offer.

Just another note, the 990 does do an a/d/a conversion on the 7.1 input signal to provide bass management, but I've never found that it reduces the quality of the signal in any way, at least to my ears.

Thank you Gonk and Koyaan for your replies. All the indications are that I should count my blessings and stay with full analog processing with my BDP-83SE audio where possible. The Oppo stereo outputs are very good. I had been running them into my CD inputs with stereo bypass. I always have liked an additional speaker pair much like we run four or more speakers in our vehicles. I "Y" the stereo outputs and send the left outputs to the front and surround left 5.1 input on my 950 and similar with the right stereo output. I then turn off my center and sub in the Oppo menu (since they are still wired into the 950 for 5.1 listening). I find this to sound very, very good and benefit from the higher end Oppo Stereo DACs with output from four speakers. All staying analog through the 950 with full bass management. I'm hunting for an inexpensive audio selector to accomplish this change from 4 speaker stereo and back to 5.1. but for now...it is a recabling chore.
