I seem to recall reading some time ago that you can't download or install new 990 firmware using an Apple computer. Does anyone know if that is true?

Thanks, John

The software won't run on MacOS - it's Windows-based. I don't know that it works with Vista (never ran Vista around the house or at work, except for a bad experience with the beta on a work box). It works with XP, though, and if you have any sort of emulation capability on an Intel-based Mac you can probably make it work.

Thanks Gonk....I have one other question if you don't mind. Is there a way to trim the sub volume when in stereo mode? I know you can use the test button and punch enter twice to adjust it in dolby, but it doesn't seem to let you do that in stereo. From my experience the only speakers that can be trimmed in stereo mode are the mains. Correct? Kind of a bummer if that's so, I'll bet the majority of users employ their sub when listening to music in stereo.

You're in the same boat as me. All macs in the house, and no copies of XP to dual boot under. I'll probably just end up borrowing a friend's laptop.

I don't recall how this works - even when I had my 990, I don't know that I ever actually tried this.

I too have never heard of the 990 offering this type of adjustment but I listen to a lot of 2.1 music (in bypass) and it is a pain to turn on the TV and switch to the 990 menu to adjust the L, R, or sub. A simple stereo balance adjustment is often all I need. Can you describe the steps used to trim the sub volume when in Dolby mode and the L & R in stereo? Does it make permanent changes to the trim settings or are they temporary?

No need to turn on the tv, Just hit the Test button on the remote and "Test Off" will appear on the front window of the 990. Then after punching the enter button twice you can toggle between the left and right mains when in stereo mode or scroll through all speakers when in dolby mode and make adjustments to the settings. But, you must hit the enter button to trim the volume for any speaker then, once you have made your change, hit it again to make them permanent and enable you to move on to the next speaker. If you want to time using the test tones, hit the test button then hit enter once and then hit the up arrow above the enter button on the remote. From there, use the side arrows to toggle between the mains in stereo around all the speakers when in dolby movie or music.

The manual gives instructions on this. It just bums me out that you can't trim the sub while in stereo mode. From what I can tell, you have to go into dolby first to do that.
