I can make a guess, but it's not going to be one that makes you feel any better. If HDCP is involved (which is required by HDMI), I would consider the potential for handshake issues to be unavoidable. In almost every case, it's not
HDMI producing the handshaking problems, it's
HDCP. And if there's a standard I have less respect for than HDMI, it's HDCP.
