Not sure if I should have posted this here or in the 990 section but here goes:
I have been anticipating the 997 like alot of people but started to analyze my situation. My 990 is meeting all my needs. I'm not bothered by the lack of HDMI switching (I connect right to my display) and the Analog sound is terrific.
So I think eventually I may get a 997 but for now my 990 is everything I need.

Thanks MZprp5,
We believe that the 990 is destined to become a classic. Besides sounding great we know from the thousands sold that it is easy to use and virtually trouble free. It reminds me of the 3020 from my NAD days.
As you can guess, the supply is steadily dwindling and when it is "gone" we anticipate that it will live on in a strong aftermarket.

I'm sticking with my 990, too. It has everything I need, as I only have a single HDMI component with 7.1 analog outputs.
Perhaps the next version pre/pro will replace my 990.

I definitely am sticking with my 990. It will be nice to see how 997 will perform with others but I currently have no desire or need to upgrade to 997 yet. I am sure someday, perhaps next gen after 997, will be looking to upgrade my 990 but it is doing all the things that I want fromy HT processor for now.

Glad to see I'm not the only one not ready to make the switch. Maybe there'll be a "998" with all the 997 goodies and the 2150's phono capabilities. Yes, I know that depends on what Sherwood Newcastle decides, but one can still dream . . .

I'll add my support for the 990. I upgraded from a 10-year-old receiver around the first of the year. I've been researching this upgrade for quite awhile, and had considered a competitor's new model since the 997 was going to be outside my budget. Then I learned of the BDP-83 which removed the need for a pre/pro with new codec capabilities, and I also connect the video straight to the display. Music performance is really important, and after reading all the great comments on the 990 in this regard and deciding it had every capability I would need for the foreseeable future, I bought the 990. It is such a great deal. What's more, my wife and I have been enjoying it for several months and the new pre/pros aren't out yet. We have no regrets with the decision to buy the 990.

I don't think I'm going to upgrade to the 997 either. The movie side of my setup is quite nice with the 990. Lately I've been more interested in two-channel music upgrades. I wish Outlaw would put some of their efforts into this area - giant killer phono pre-amps, tube amp, etc.
Later, Don

If the 997 keeps being delayed, I hope Outlaw will keep the 990 around long enough to have product to sell. It would be a shame to find yourselves in the same boat as Emotiva with no current PP product on the shelves waiting for new stuff to be available. Not to mention the red ink! Maybe by late summer I'll be ready to upgrade my system. The 990 might still be good enough (depending on what BD player I eventually end up with, the entry grade machines DON'T have 7.1 analog audio out). If the 990 isn't still available at that time perhaps I can find one used from someone who has upgraded to the 997. (Didn't Outlaw once have a forum where Outlaw customers could post used equipment for sale/swap?)

My suspicion is that they've got an existing inventory of Model 990's and Model 970's that they'll keep selling until they run out. Unless they were really low and elected to order a "stop gap" batch it's very possible that the last 990 has already left the assembly line and taken up residence in a warehouse on the east coast. I believe Gonk is right on target as usual. My 990 came from Johnston RI and it is a VERY nice piece of gear. It was made in China and the quality just shines through. I purchased another Pre/Pro before this and it was made in Malaysia and it didn't look as solid as the 990. The 990 IMO is a very nice stop gap till the 997 arrives. Once I'm fully set up with the 990 I bet I'll be smiling ear to ear for a very long time. JD

i'll probably wait until the 990 warranty wears out before I decide to upgrade. Since i'm still using component cables for most of my things except the DVD (DVI) there's not enough reason to move for me.
