You see one of the reasons I'm going to HT is because I have a Xbox and I want to enjoy the surround sound features. But all Xbox games are encoded in Dolby Digital 5.1 and how will that work with a receiver that is built for 6.1? Will the 6th speaker in the 6.1 be idle, or will it use the 6th speaker even though it is only DD 5.1?

Can the Outlaw 1050 work well with the Xbox.

The 1050 will work in either 5.1 or 6.1 mode. If you have it set to 6.1 and only provide it with a 5.1 source, it'll try to create a sixth channel from the two rears (sometimes more successfully than others). So either way, should work just fine.

Of course you'll want the "kit" that allows you to use a digital optical connection from the Xbox to the Outlaw, or you will get nothing more than stereo.

I've got a PS2, and Sony was nice enough to include the optical port on the back, without requiring any extra adaptors. I've got that running into my 1050 and the sound is simply awesome. No comparison.

Yes, Get the advanced AV adapter. I have my xbox hooked up to my yamaha, HALO in DD 5.1 is simply AMAZING!!!
